RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
The RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (RAS) consists of the national academy of Russia, a network of scientific research institutes from across the Russian Federation, and additional scientific and social units such as libraries, publishing units, and hospitals.
The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is the State Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation, the country's largest center for fundamental research. The main goal of the activities of the Russian Academy of Sciences is to organize and conduct fundamental and applied scientific research on the problems of natural, technical, humanitarian and social sciences, aimed at obtaining new knowledge about the laws of the development of nature, society, humans and contributing to the technological, economic, social and cultural development of Russia. ... RAS is called upon to fulfill the important mission of ensuring freedom of scientific creativity for the good and prosperity of the country. As the highest scientific organization in Russia, the Russian Academy of Sciences takes part in the coordination of fundamental research carried out at the expense of the federal budget by scientific organizations and educational institutions of higher professional education.
As of November 2017, the Academy included 1008 institutions and other units. In total about 125,000 people were employed of whom 47,000 were scientific researchers.
